Subject: I'm sorry, Vince
I cringe listening to Vince & I feel bad about it. He just doesn't fit. He must be talented! I've read so many comments that "Vince is A HUGE talent", that it must be true, right? Well, it's almost like I can feel Bobby, Phil, Billy, & Mickey' s tension as they play & hear Vine stumble along. Jerry seems to accept it. Weird.
Most of my 100+ shows were with Vince & I just couldn't hear how bad he really was... He seemed like such a Good Guy. I'm sad about the horrific way he went out & the downward spiral he sank, but he wasn't a good choice after Brent.
I'm not being a snob, he just sounds bad. The rest of the band sounded Great, but Vince Welnick sabotaged the overall sound.
Sorry Vince...

Sometimes you just have to dance my friend. And the reviewers comment about victim or the crime is right on. It got too much of a buzzkill reaction much like gentleman start your engines. Strong message much like TS but I understand there is a time and place etc.... blah. Still a big fan. tell mickey and bill you do not like space.

I can remember this version of "Victim" absolutely amazing me at the time. The song had evolved from a screeching, feedbacky mess into a midi-induced wonder.
It sounded to me like "Angry children at play" at the time, but I'm sure there was a pharmaceutical explanation for that... ;-)

I can't believe there are people in this world who call themselves fans of The Grateful Dead and hate on drums and space... aww, what's wrong? too spacey, scary? Sorry If i sound all knowing, but you do realize improv is a foundation of their music... and that so many excellent tunes were birthed from space..? Piss break? Who needs to pee in the middle of a set anyway?..
Excuise me?? Baking Powder? As wayne would say..

this show is amazing..every part of it..mrjazz and tito..you both are clueless..im guessing you started to like the dead after touch of grey was on the radio. obviously you arent true fans and DO NOT deserve to be dubbed deadheads because you criticize them. if you knew ANYTHING about the band you would know where drums/space evolved from. you are probably amongst the "touchheads" who ruined the band crashing gates and starting riots. These guys were just trying to play music to make people happy and you aholes didnt give a f#@! and took it for granted. it was a beautiful perfect scene until touchheads didnt bother to know the scene and act mature and destroyed it and ruined it for everyone. touchheads and gate crashers suck.

tito is right on, D/S was nothing but a piss break and a good time to find your friends for another bump. XM channel cuts most of them out, thank our lucky stars.
this was my first show when I actually left home for full time tour.

this is a big jerry show. every song he touches is gold. 1/2 step, candy man(!), and a monster, 18-minute bird song.
bob has a nice mexicali -> br early, but that's about it for him. the rest of the bob tunes go steadily downhill, which is okay, cuz this show is all jerry.
scarlet -> fire -> stir it up jam is one of the coolest things they did all year, hands down. GDTR out of space is sweet and only a below-average throwin stones gets between GDTR and it's traditional suitemate, Not Fade Away. the NFA is awesome, with jerry finishing strong.
phil's vocals are a little weak on box o rain, but the song sounds nice, and the harmony on the 'will ease the pain..' line is all chilly and great. listen to jerry on the final verse. so sweet.

This truly is a great Half Step. If you're a fan of the song like I am, then it's a must hear. There's a brief stretch in the jam where Phil takes the bottom out and Jerry does a few little sticatto runs on the synth blanket. That is glorious and the outro finishes with an inspired flurry from Jerry. One of my favorite moments witnessed.
The Victim is among the best I've heard...right there with the 7/12/90 version from the prior summer's RFK show. Maybe there's some attendance bias, but I've yet to hear better versions than those two. And when Jerry comes skipping out of the shattered glass of the Victim jam into Scarlet...that's one of those intangible moments that warms the heart. It's a good Scarlet, but this one is all about the Fire on the Mountain. Jerry does James Brown. "Talkin' 'bout Fire!" The Stir It Up jam is nice enough...it's easy on the ears. In fact, that whole segment S>F>SiU is like they're on skates or something...there's a gorgeous fluidity to it, particularly when heard on a decent aud. The GDTRFB is not bad, but not over the top.
It's a good show, with some great moments. I prefer the aud I had back in the 90s to the stuffy SBD here.

I went to all four nights at the Cap Centre, and From my first show @ the Spectrum on 10/19/89 to my last at 3 River Stadium in '95, this is the best show that I ever went to. All of the tours this year seemed quite good, & I remember saying during Fall Tour that we'd probably seen the last great run they'd ever do. This is certainly arguable, but I believe it to be true.

this is an amazing show, and I would really love to listen to it on a good stereo system rather than just through my computer speakers! LMA why did you put all these great SBD dead shows in stream-only format? it really sucks, very uncool. do something about this now please, we're getting pissed off.

Yet another excellent spring 91 show. My only gripe with this show is that I think Hornsby isn't turned up enough in the mix, and Vince is a little loud.

OMG did I really just say that?
Very good sound quality, but no crowd noise, leaving it a little sterile
First half is SMOKIN - Jerry blisters Mexicali and Big River, 0.5 Step MUT is smokin
Victim is kinda cool, in an overblown melodramatic way, with big dirty almost almost industrial-sounding Bobby guitar ... unless you feel that that kind of thing has no place at a Dead show.
Scarlet/Fire is pretty perfunctory, not a particularly inspiring rendition.
Stir it up Jam is a nice special feature.
Sorry - Box o Rain sounds totally perfunctory and uninspired - almost like they were trying to hurry through it to get Phil off the mic and get back to their hotel room stashes.
Overall - download-worthy tho.

I realize I am supposed to limit my comments to the shows and the recordings, I was at this show and it was really good, but I must comment on the 5000 show claim. It HAS to be tongue and cheek. Oh please let it be a bro just joshin'.
The Scarlet>Fire>Stir It Up Jam rules. That night and still do this day.
Thanks to all the scarificed to encapsulate something that will never exist again.
And to the dude blastin' D/S, uuummmmmkkkkk. WTF?? Hey, no one forced you.
Oy Vey.

I have seen over 5000 dead shows. That's right 5000. by the end all I would do was go in the show in time for drums and space. then I would leave. thats how hardcore I am. And I remember you throwing hot dogs, you hit me right in the eye. Doctors were going to remove it. but just then Mickey Hart appeared on his break during space. He used an African tribal healing technique and saved my eye. Thank god for space.

Just when you thought you have heard it all......best "4" night run I did in 10 years. The last night was well worth waiting for. Very tight first set, and second set fire is blazing!!!!!! Nice to hear stir it up, and what else can you say about GDTRFB????? can make even the worst of nights well worth the price of admission, but this night it was the cherry. Worth downloading, great soundboard......only beef is drums/space is cut.......not sure why people do that. I might be alone on this one, but drums/space is such an integral part of any show....I would rather lose an encore or burn 3 discs then disrupt the flow of a second set, but just my thoughts. 5/5

I have to agree with earlier reviewer. This is definitley one for the collection. However, I find it almost imperative to drop Box of Rain from Disc 2 (Put it on D1). I know many heads who still bash Victim i.e., Velveta or the Cheese, but on this nite Victim built into an apocolyptic/deconstruction cresando finally desolving into this very organic spring like Scarlet that felt like sunshine on your face!
